Easily Locate OST File in Your System

Users are well versed with offline Outlook data files which are abbreviated as OST files. These files save the work which we do when we are offline. As soon as the system gets connected to Exchange Server, whole of the work is synced automatically with Outlook. Now most of the time users search for OST file location where these OST files are stored. Here we have deliberately explained how and where you can locate OST files.

OST files for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007:

  1. Launch your MS Outlook application. Go to the Tools menu and click on Account Setting.

  2. Select Exchange Server and click on Change.

  3. One dialog box which says “Change Email account” will appear. This box will contain the name of your Outlook profile.

  4. Here at the bottom of box you will see More Settings option, click on that.More setting options
  5. Another dialog box “Microsoft Exchange” will appear. Go to the Advanced Tab of this box.Advance settings
  6. Now click on the “Offline Folder File Settings”. Dialog box will appear which contains a File field. The path available at this File field is the location where your OST files are stored.Offline folder file setting

Usually the default path set for OST files in Windows XP is drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.
In Windows 7 and Vista this default location is drive:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook.

OST Files for Microsoft Outlook 2003 and earlier versions:

  1. Click on Tools menu and Select Email accounts.
  2. Click on View or Change Existing email account. Proceed forward.
  3. Now click on Microsoft Exchange Server and click on the ‘Change’ button.
  4. Go to More Settings tab of it.
  5. Click on Advanced tab and open Offline Folder File Settings.

OST files for Microsoft Outlook 2010:

  1. Select Info tab in Menu by clicking on the File Tab in the Ribbon.
  2. This will open Account Settings tab and now again click on Account Settings.
  3. A list will appear from where select Microsoft Exchange Server and then click on the ‘Change’ button.
  4. Go to More Settings tab of it.
  5. Click on Advanced tab and open Offline Folder File Settings.

Following all these steps, you will be able to locate your OST files in any version of Outlook.
